Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Cook Time 5 minutes mins
Total Time 15 minutes mins
- 2 Cup Milk Can use dairy or plant-based alternatives like almond, coconut, or soy milk
- 1 tbsp Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 tbsp Cinnamon Powder
- 1/4 tbsp Ginger Powder Or 1/2 tsp freshly grated ginger
- 1 Pinch Black Pepper To enhance turmeric absorption
- 1-2 tbsp Honey or Maple syrup Adjust to taste
- 1/2 tbsp Vanilla Extract For added flavor
Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, combine the milk, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper. If using, add the vanilla extract as well. Stir well to ensure all the spices are evenly distributed.
Warm the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Warm the mixture, stirring occasionally, until it is hot but not boiling. This should take about 4-5 minutes. Be careful not to let it boil as boiling can cause the milk to form a skin on top.
Sweeten: Remove the saucepan from heat. Add honey or maple syrup to the warm milk. Stir well until the sweetener is completely dissolved.
Serve: Pour the turmeric milk through a fine strainer into cups to remove any large pieces of spice. Serve warm.
Tips:
- Consistency: For a creamier turmeric milk, you can use full-fat coconut milk or add a teaspoon of coconut oil or ghee (clarified butter) to the mixture before heating.
- Sweetness: Adjust the sweetness according to your preference. You can start with less sweetener and add more if needed after tasting.
- Spice Level: Feel free to adjust the amount of turmeric, cinnamon, and ginger according to your taste preferences. If you enjoy a stronger flavor, you can slightly increase the quantities.
- Health Boost: Adding a pinch of black pepper is crucial as it contains piperine, which significantly increases the bioavailability of curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, enhancing its health benefits.
- Nighttime Drink: Turmeric milk is a great beverage before bedtime. The warm milk can help induce a sense of relaxation and support a good night’s sleep, while the turmeric offers anti-inflammatory benefits.
Enjoy your turmeric milk as a comforting, health-boosting drink any time of the day!
